The Westside Youth Tech Entrepreneur Center was incorporated in January 2001.  Our founder, Almetris Snulligan-Stanley, was born and raised in the West Garfield community.  Ms. Stanley believes that community residents should be stakeholders in our community through business ownership.  Ms. Stanley states "No longer can we depend on staying on the job for thirty years.  The world has changed and we must change how we think about the world of work and business ownership.  Our youth must be taught at an early age that entrepreneurship is a viable career option.  Every student pursuing higher education should walk across that graduation stage with a diploma in one hand and a business plan in the other.  Every discipline offered in college must be thought of as a foundation for creating a business after graduation."

WYTEC serves as a bridge from the business sector to the youth in the community to let them know that they have choices other than drugs, gangs and violence. WYTEC also serves as a ray of light in the West Garfield community that has been written off as one of the worst neighborhoods for youth ages 8 to 17 years old, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. WYTEC seeks to revitalize the business community from the inside out; the community residents must be empowered through entrepreneurship education, technology training and the development of life skills to improve the quality of their lives and to assist in leveling the global business arena.
